In the Court of Red Dresses
The National Red Dress Project: Katonah Village Library
The Red Dress exhibition is an on-site display of multifarious red dresses which have been selectively curated to memorialize the Murdered, Missing Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). Initially conceptualized in Canada as a way to bring awareness to the ongoing desecration of life, as communities rally to address this lesser known and untold peril that ravages the lives of Indigenous women.
As their lifeless bodies appear alongside miles of unmarked crosses which line Native American reservations, we hang red dresses to give them honor, to bear witness to the call for action, to remember and never forget.
